POTATOES

Mostly we grow small and salad potatoes with a small area of maincrop grown annually for bakers. In fact, chances are if you've bought a punnet of small Maris Peer potatoes from your local supermarket recently, they were grown by Wrentham Vegetables. With more than 1000 acres of potatoes Wrentham Vegetables is now, probably, the leading supplier of salad and small potatoes to the major supermarkets in the UK.

Our planting season starts early, in March. Planting under polythene to protect the young crop, principally varieties Maris Peer and Carlingford. These will be harvested from June onwards. All our potatoes are grown to strict standards, which govern the issues of quality, food safety and the environment. We are frequently independently assessed and are proud of the Nature's Choice and Assured Produce standards awarded to potatoes produced by us. It doesn't stop there though, working with agronomists and environmentalists we are constantly running internal trials, looking at different growing regimes and ways to minimise the impact on the environment by reducing levels of artificial fertiliser and pesticides.

Every load leaving the farm is checked to ensure it passes our quality control standards with detailed quality records, as well as field records being maintained. This does more than service our customers needs in a world of ever more exacting consumer standards. It allows us to review the past and find ways to improve, meeting our customers needs for the future.
